Consumed at the same dinner party as the previous bottle. Not quite as good as bottle #1, but very tasty, none the less. From the same case, but somehow tasted a little younger and more rustic. Alas, my last bottle.

Little less evolved than my last bottle. Licorice and coconut (oak?) on the nose. Palate dominated by tannins, but plenty of fruit remains. Very fresh with good acidity, portending a long life ahead. Well balanced and a good (slightly hot) finish.

2001 is my favorite vintage in the Piedmont and the Big D remains my go to wine when I'm in no mood for surprises. This wine remains vibrant and young tasting. Licorice notes on the nose and palate. Packed with flavor and not a bit of weight. Long pleasant finish. Many years of life anead. Addendum: On day 2 the fruit really comes through in spades. Maybe worth a point more.

This bottle is still singing on it's plane of maturity. Ditto previous notes. Will hold for a while , but not likely improve.

The Big D was singing again tonight. Great vintage, and a great value. Ditto previous notes.
