A private tasting (Restaurant De Gieser Wildeman *, Noordeloos, Netherlands): Lively appearance, deeper than the previous wine; attractive and open nose, ripe fruit, finesse, minerals, lapsang souchong, deep and spicy, mint; quite weighty and rounded on the palate, ripe style, resolved tannins, soft acidity; long finish, cold tea.

Perfect cork and level (1.5cm). From Champs Traversins. Fully mature appearance, almost bricked through; rich, even luxurious nose of lifted ripe fruit, sous-bois, oak, pepper and Asian spice, deep and mineral with aromatics I associate with granite or slate, hint of cold tea, pure; the palate certainly shows no lack of structure, there is ample freshness and tannic grip, puts on a cool and mineral face, has shed some weight but it is not too dry, flavours still show good drive and energy; very good length, jasmin, spices and tea, undergrowth and rosehip. A worthy representative of its vintage and terroir. Will last until its 20th birthday but there is no need to wait.

Maybe I am a cheap on the scoring as this was served at the same time as a 95 DRC Echezeaux. It was a interesting contrast as the Prieur wine was richer and more luxurious with nice purple fruit notes but just didn't have the complexity of the DRC wine. Overall however this was an excellent wine that is showing beautifully now. I think that it has a lot of life left in it but I doubt it is going to get any better than it is now. Of note from opening to serving (about 2 hours) it was very consistent and neither improved or faded over that time.
