  • 14% alcohol. Good long cork. Rich golden colour.
Dried flowers and yellow fruit (including quince) on the nose.
Honeyed and multilayered in the mouth with a superb palate coating quality; rich but absolutely not cloying and with a marvellous uplift in the finish.
One of my favourite Sauternes, and I have JMQ to thank for bringing it to my attention.

  • Clandestine lunch during quarantine. Barsac's 100% wines are so versatile that they work just as well with appetizers as they do in desserts. And it is that by evolving long before their neighbors they also manage to find the balance between abundance and acidity earlier. The nose receives toasted notes that change to burnt sugar and peach in syrup. Everything presented with complexity and good taste. On the palate it maintains the expected concentration and an acidity that nuances it, giving balance and length. A classic bottle that currently seems to me of an excessive price. (€50+)

  • 14% alcohol. Sémillon 92%, Sauvignon 6%, Muscadelle 2%. Good long dense cork. Pale gold colour.
The nose has good intensity with aromas reminiscent of honeysuckle and gorse. The mouth is rich, with the palate coating quality of the best liquoreux; orange peel and some confectionery. The final is bright and fleet of foot, as one gets from liquoreux that eschew chaptalisation. Nothing cloying about this Barsac.
My first encounter with Nairac, and I am impressed.

  • Nice balance, not too sweet, raisins. Best Sauternes I had so far.

  • Layers of honey coated orange, pineapple, apricot and tangerine, with elements of spice and vanilla to mix things up. Sweet, soft and forward, this value priced Sauternes can be drunk now, or aged for at least a decade or more.
