Duellen (Landvetter): Rich flavors of green apples and honey. Nicely developed but still has the fruit and freshness of a young wine. Surprisingly good!

We certainly drank this too young, as part of an Austrian wine tasting on 1.12.12, so this note is provisional.
Very pale lemon. Austere nose with a trace of development - a tantalising duskiness. Definite concentration of old Lyra trellised vines and terroir expression with dense minerality, high acidity and taut like a spring. Certainly one to keep for several more years (>2015) before approaching this beast again.

Lemon-gold with youthful nose offering pear, ripe apple, smoky minerality and green tea. Focused. Mineral on palate with vivid acidity. Very concentrated, will develop complexity with age

(Willi Bründlmayer Riesling Zöbinger Heiligenstein "Lyra") ($74.00) One or both of these may not be available until January 2012, depending on their evolution in cask. As a rule I have found some of the Alte Reben bottlings somewhat heavy and dour lately, preferring the complexity of fruit and regal grace of the Lyra. This vintage was different, at least potentially. Lyra had a fervent aroma blending strong green elements and smoky botrytis in a solid firm line of silvery mossy structure, with fine herbal length. But Alte Reben, man that was like chewing geology. A little wisp of botrytis supports the vinosity. If this goes where I think, it’ll become a dense, rocky Riesling with an overtone of sweet fruit.
