  • Golden yellow color. A sweet character on the nose with intense aromas of ripe / dried / canned yellow fruits on the foreground. Same aromas and intensity on the palate, but somehow - and after a very nice first impression on the palate - I lost the balance. I had higher expectations for this one. Maybe it has passed its best.

  • Brundlmayer Riesling Heiligenstein Alte Reben and Lyra vertical 2004 to 2001 (Le Petit Sommelier): Deep color like the Alte Reben 2001, complex character with spicy notes alongside lychee, crystallized koum kouat, over-ripe green apple with a few smoke/toast and caramel notes. Fully developed
Dry, medium+ acidity, medium+/full body, balanced, with toast-y notes and apple leading the way through a long spicy aftertaste.
Oustanding quality, considering the age better to drink now than later while it still has the acidity to support the fruit. Performing better than the Alte Reben 2001, but still an impressive difference to the 2002.

  • Grand Sichuan (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): Unfortunately not the knockout that my last bottle was; comes across fully mature again with an overlay of burnished smoky and savoury flavours around the ripe white fruits, but it doesn't show the seamlessness or aromatic complexity I experienced in this a few months ago. Pairing with moderately spiced Szechuan food didn't help either.

  • Drinking stunningly well right now. Appears fully mature with a bright gold colour, and an incredible scent combining fresh Riesling fruit and minerality with herbal, spicy, honeyed and developed smoky and burnished elements. There's tremendous depth on the palate, but at the same time it conveys flavour with a remarkable sense of lightness and finesse, with a long, resonant finish. Great wine and I'm glad I have another bottle.
