Couples Night (The Bristol - Chicago, IL): Hard to take your beak out of the glass on this one. Great nose of berries, soot, spice, and something akin to sausage. The wine was soft and elegant devoid of any sharp edges. Great florals, dark fruit, with nice spiciness. Drinking very well for a 20-year old Hermitage - probably at peak.

Bernard Faurie Hermitage Flight (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Light ruby. Distinctly weedy nose with some forest floor complexity. Light bodied, in fact, slight with fruit that has largely faded away and overall lack of grip and concentration. Not dead yet but certainly getting close.

Inky black color; flavors of dark fruit, blueberries were overly extracted and covered by wood, saddle leather and overly woody finish.
