Violet on the nose, dark and rich purpley hue. Good red fruit in the palate and still enough tannins to hold up the finish, which comes just a touch too soon. Overall a very nice wine.

This is what is great about Mondeuse. It has this wild, sappy, meaty, somewhat familiar profile that certain Syrah's have. The fruit is cool, it has a nice mineral edge, and smooth tannins on the finish. Fresh, wild, vivid, wholly satisfying.

One of those wines that presents itself like the initial encounter with The Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz. The nose goes one way and the flavors go in a completely different direction. How does that work? Color a vibrant light purple. Aromatic nose soars with dusty red berry fruit with floral overtones. In the mouth, it's surprisingly closed and even a little pinched, finishing with abrupt though unassertive tannins and a wash of berry-inflected bitterness. I know nothing about mondeuse but at least in this interesting 12% version it seems like a fun bistro red and worth a tumble now and again. I wonder given the disconnect between nose and mouth if this could improve with age.

Santa Fe Offline (Susan's House - Santa Fe, NM): Very pretty nose of violets, sweet plum, crushed stones and mushroom. Palate was soft and inviting with lithe violet, and dark cherry tones nicely integrated. Like last time, this didn't blow me away like other Mondeuse has, but certainly a heck of a value.

Consistent with my previous note, though I found this bottle just slightly thinner and less nuanced. Could be me or the evolution of the wine.
