  • medium bodied with resolved tannin and slight dark fruit

  • Dark, smoky nose, with notes of hoisin sauce and cassis. Light, silky mouthfeel, with smooth (almost fully resolved) tannins and a touch of astringent, mouth-puckering acidity. Dried-fruit flavours of blackberry, blueberry, and plum, cut with refreshing grapefruit and a hint of anise. Nothing about this wine really stands out in a spectacular or ostentatious way, but it's well-balanced, it's easy-drinking, and it combines strong fruit flavour with interesting aged notes: I loved it.

  • Fascinating - not what I expected from merlot. Low expectations after a soaked cork crumbled, but it's good in the glass: Red cherries, plums, smoke, tobacco and dry earth flavours on the nose - it's very peaty, like a smokey scotch whiskey. Smooth on the palate, and a lingering finish of spicey oak, blue fruits, and more smokey notes. Decent acid line too. What an interesting little drop. Would have really struggled to place this.

  • Tasted blind. Dark crimson color turning rust at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off shoe cabinet, mushroom, smoke, dark berreis and leather. The palate is full-bodied and smooth as silk in texture. Flavors of dark cherry, currant, dark chocolate, cola, spice, and smoked meat. This is very elegant and smooth sailing. Finishes long with hints of smoke and burnt caramel. Drink now until 2023. 93+

  • Drank this during the 7th day of Chinese New Year Dinner.

Colour is brick brown, with crimson hues around the edge. On the nost and palate the scent of ripe plunms is overwhelming. Thick, viscous and lush, medium bodied with structure still holding but showing signs of aging. Finish is long but not impressive.

Had higher expectations of this wine (given its ratings and credentials) and it's fair to say it did not live up to it.

Drink up if you still have as the wine is probably in its final stages.
