  • I am not sure what to think about this wine. All I know is that it had some rather unsavory characteristics at first. The wine was pretty much abandoned, but after two hours of sitting while enjoying something else, this one really came into its element with some rose petals and delicate wildflowers on the front, turning very dark in the middle, and finishing dark and complex. The problem was, we had pretty much forgotten about it. It was damned to the refrigerator. One day later, it was swill. Considering that this is a wine produced by a rather remarkable winery, I am rather shocked that this 2010 Viader Dare didn't hold a candle to the 2009 Cornerstone SteppingStone Cab Franc enjoyed a week or two before.

  • Wow, so this is a darker wine than I had anticipated. I was expecting a medium bodied red-fruited, "happy go lucky" wine and instead I get something like this. This wine was uncorked to a significant amount of tartrate. Poured a dark red with violet hue into the glass. Nose was a chalky raspberry, a little bit of black tea, violet, some spice. Smelled also like it had a bit of tart. On the palate this wine took about 20 minutes to settle. First it was very tart -- overripe plum was all that dominated to the finish where a chalky note took over. However, the wine did open to reveal dark, foresty, earthy characteristics on the front. Plum, fig, earth, black tea note still in the front going to the middle. This wine turned a bit to herbal notes and pipe tobacco in the middle. The wine finishes chalky, medium to full bodied, herbal, oak tannin. There is a distinct note of rosemary note (wife is starting to use this herb in a lot of things, and I can taste it quite prominently here). I am really confused as to the longevity of this wine. To me this wine is SO DIFFERENT than the 2009 we had at Press in St. Helena. It seems to mimic their proprietary red in the tobacco, smoke, and dark fruit characteristics that we noted in their 2005 Cab and I agree with previous reviewers that this one does taste very similar to a dark smoky mountain cab. If you have this, I would probably try to drink it in the next couple of years, but this wine was an unexpected treat tonight because the food we ended up enjoying this with probably needed something darker anyway!

  • Good but even better 3 days later. We had Leviathan first and finished up with this. Great floral nose. What a great bouquet. Decent finish with acidity. Good not great.
