Casual Southern-Rhône tasting: Medium gold-amber colour with distinct legs. Medium+ nose of almonds, dried apricots, minerals and a nutty, brioche touch. Medium+ intensity, dry, waxy palate with good acidity and a seamless long finish. A slight dustyness on opening blew off and the wine improved in the glass, showing sweeter notes of ginger and cookie dough after 1hr+.
White Rhones always go through difficult, closed phases and appear on the other side elegant and refined - which is the only reason I can think that the Wine Advocate scored this a measly 78pts in the 1997 Rhone book. This is definitely the best 78pt wine I have ever had!
