The label on the neck recorded that this went for EUR 13,20 on release, though I recall this came gifted with a decent purchase from the nice folk at Le Torre in Alba. Still a vibrant purple, a nose that seemed to speak more of Barolo than Barbera, with spiced plums and blueberries, but the absence of tannin confirmed its identity. Soft and round, which is not what one often says of Barbera, and lacked the acid cut of the Vajra Bricco delle Viole 1999 to which we then moved, but not at all put in the shade by that grander wine.

Drinking will now. A great combination of purity, elegance and balance. Acidity is great, nice finish.

Dinner with Josh and Karen K and Bob S (Salty's Pub & Bistro, Clifton Park, NY): [Same bottle from 8/13/2014 open 5 days.] Nose of earth, black fruit, tar, licorice, and truffles. Thick and delicious in the mouth. Long spicy finish. Just an amazing traditional Barbera. Wish I could get more.
