  • A soft and layered Barolo from one of the Langhe’s iconic producers. A core of deep garnet in the glass feathering out to tawny at the rim. Dried strawberries and black cherries lead while rose petal, old leather, savory herbs, caramel, and tar add layers of complexity. The palate is soft and silky with excellent balancing acidity and well integrated tannins. Nice long finish and kept changing in the glass, even after a half day in the decanter. This should hold for many years now but is in a perfect spot to enjoy.

  • Brought to Aria in NYC along with the 1990 Ceretto Prapo. This is my last 1999 bottle and there have been mixed reviews. When this was young, it was extremely tanic and almost over the top. On this tasting, I think my impression of this would have been better had it not been drank along side the 1990. The 1990 was phenomenal and the 99 came across a little off balance. The 1990 drank much younger and the 99 seemed past it's prime. Tastes of caramel and toasted oak that was a little off. Overall a good wine, but the 1990 just blew it away.

  • A beautiful wine at nearly 20 years. Aromas of crushed blackberry alongside a residue of oregano. The wine is bricking in color and cloudy in the glass. On the palette the wine is all aged Barolo. Sweet cherries and pie crust keep this wine both sweet and creamy.

The finish is acidic and a little challenging but it is where the cherries come through most.

  • Amazing complex wine. Beautiful sweet cherry bouquet with allspice, rose petals. Then medium body mouthfeel and still fair amount of tannins . Wonderful classic Barolo .

  • Very different to the prior tasting, which were extremely tannic with bright flavors. This bottle seemed a lot more tired and showed it's age, which surprised me. While it was still quite good, I was expecting much more and this seemed like it was on a steep decline.
