  Mostly oxidized nondescript purple=rather advanced for the bones and lack of savory elements. Good acid, medium tannin, and not high alcohol or over-oaked.
  
  There's a whiff of beauty on the nose underneath the (unpleasant) level of oxidation.
  
  I could see this being really nice years ago.

Beautiful nose with soft pine needle, mint, rare meat, brine, black raspberry... On the palate, vibrant acidity. Pure black raspberry core, with great salinity and a touch of soft, but very finely grained tannin on the finish. Subtle, and precise.
  
  I guess there could be further development of secondary aromas and a little bit of softening of the tannin, but this is in a really fantastic place now.

The nose was a bit muted in comparison (though still nice notes of violets and meat), so perhaps this is starting to go through a closed phase. The palate is a different story with great acidity. The tannin on the finish was very soft and clean. Elegant wine, but less expressive than the Niero. After a few hours open, this seemed distinctly earthier, darker and deeper. I probably won't touch another bottle of this for a while.

  2009 Cote Roties (and a few others) (Trent's): The group's WOTN (my #2). Purple/ruby in color. The nose is black raspberries, scorched earth with a dusty quality. I wondered if this might be Californian. Great texture. Firm tannins. Nice acidity. Black raspberries with precision and depth. 6/9 of us had it in first or second place.
