Interesting change from our previous tasting: Texture and body seemed very light, possibly explained by a fair quantity of solids precipitated out. Primary fruits mostly gone, but secondary flavors and structure well-equipped to match a braised beef dish. Probably not a re-purchase if looking for the big profile suggested by the northern Rhone appellation.

Beautiful bottle. Dark red berry notes, spice, not tremendous depth but it certainly hits all the usual Cote Rotie notes. Drank with a tomahawk cooked on a Traeger. Went perfectly.

Unpleasant odors from the bottle, even after giving it lots of air. But there was no corresponding taste -- in fact, there wasn't much taste at all. There was almost no real body here, and little flavor. I guess it could be corked, but it didn't seem to be. Finally, on the second night, some notes of leather and menthol, the latter almost bordering on cough drops, showed up. This was most welcome, since there had been so little previously to say about this bottle. I have one more to open next year, and if it is very different, I may decide that this bottle was corked. But that's not my impression now.

Fully saturated robe in the deep purple range. Surprisingly fast legs for the stated 13% ABV. Nose of blue and black fruits, tight at first, then opening into menthol, herbs, and leather. Tannins still quite active, but balanced well by bright acid. Overall a pleasing, slightly austere package that works well with lamb (gigot) or sausage. Plenty of evolution to come ... to be revisited in a year or so.

This is a solid wine in a good place. Tasted leathery notes, pepper, and other herbaceous notes. Drink now or hold a couple years.
