Not sure about this. Drank over two nights. Each time first impression highly positive (great flavor, good mid-palate, long finish) but after half a bottle the tannins continue to hammer my mouth. Kept needing to rinse my mouth with ice water and start over. Clearly good stuff, but not sure the tannins will ease off.
2014 Athens Wine Event ( with a bit of Santorini); 6/19/2014-6/22/2014 (Athens & Santorini): Blind tasted. Dark, youthful, felt like a big Gaja Barolo at times, with ripe fruit core, dark cherry notes. Or at least that is what we thought.big wine, powerful, and although has seen a fair amount of oak in its life it is the wine that dominates the oak. Pretty solid and impressive although it came after a long line of great wines . 94-95 and lots of life ahead of it.
Somewhat murky initially. I was expecting a lot of oak, but didn't get overt oak on the nose; I believe the oak manifested in a creamy, round palate texture and mouthfeel. Palate shows dark currants and hints of coffee. Took about two hours for the sweetness of the fruit to emerge and for the wine to lose its murky face. I think this was cellared too long. Then again, I think it would have been an oakbomb in its youth. Rothmann's with Laurent.
Football & Domestic Cabs @ Howard's 2013 (Old Greenwich, CT): Seems like a lot of notes here mention TCA and this bottle indeed has that tell-tale mustiness, especially on the nose. A bit cleaner on the palate, but this seems definitely off. Others thought this to be fine, but it's corked in my book.
