Spice box, tea, and dark macerated cherry nose. Palate is very elegant, silky like his wine always is, with its pure crystalline stewed fruits. Drinking very very well.

A very enjoyable mature premier cru. On the nose there is classic Vosne Romanee spice to go along with notes of raspberry jam and forest floor. The wine is medium bodied balanced by a refreshing acidity. The palate again has notes of raspberries, strawberries and perhaps fig - there is a slightly baked quality to the fruit. A Brulees that lives up to it's name!

Next-up is the duo of Engel Brulees. This had violets, earth and spice on the nose - very nicely developed, but more restrained than the '04. On the palate, plums, dark-red cherries with lifted acidity. Very nice and lovely!

Christmas WIMPS - Burgundy I (La Trompette, Chiswick): Aromatic, gamey yet with sweet, pure fruit, florals, medium bodied, soft tannins, gently savoury, vibrant acidity carries the very good length finish. Excellent, as ever. ****1/2

This is like a mix of the 00 and 02 but with more acidity.
I felt it got a little overlooked on the evening, it's a brilliant wine!
