Shared this with rocknroller on the 19th. Another excellent wine paired with our NY strips. An interesting comparison to the Martini Rosso cab; this is not as big, or full bodied as the Martini. It's younger, and the tannins are more apparent, and I got a black pepper finish. Even though I gave the Martini 2 points higher, I preferred this wine as accompaniment to the steaks. Very interesting observation for me.

Terroir-istes International - USA - California, Napa South (Cape Town Law offices): (Tasted Blind): Deep black-red colour extending to the rim. Engaging aromas of chocolate and mocha dominate, with ripe black fruits and a significant presence of spices and new oak. A glossy, richly textured palate marked by the dominance of spicy oak yet still shows blackcurrant and blackberry. Super ripe, full-bodied with a medium-plus acidity. Crafted ambitiously, it lacks charm as the oak overpowers the wine, detracting from its balance. The sweet tannins are forgiving, but the wine feels fat and not structured, with alcohol warmth and glycerol taking away some appeal. A bodybuilder style of wine, all shiny and rippling, yet the oak and spices feel more rugged. Closes with Christmas pudding notes. Oak Knoll is a cooler Ava created in 2004, mostly on valley floor in the South. Breezes cool the area. Merlot grown here is promising,

Drinking nicely. Sometimes Hendry can be strong in fruit and spice, but this was more elegant and understated. A sea air note on the nose gave this freshness. Still plenty of currant and blackberry fruit to know it's a cab.

Love the balance in this wine. California cab all day but not with a sledgehammer like so many
