Firing on all cylinders, this beauty from winemaker Chris Howell is a lovely example of a Bordeaux blend made with fruit from the Napa Valley 'benchlands' (at the feet of the valley mountains): 50% Cabernet Sauv, with Cab Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The Merlot seemed more prominent. Bacon fat on the nose, then cheries and mocha for a long finish. Its at a great place to consume. Its been a tough year for the folks at Cain Vineyards, open this to celebrate their good work.

Disappointing on first sip, but it underwent an amazing transformation after 20 minutes or so in the glass. We decanted due to a crumbled cork, but strongly advise doing so and letting it breathe for a half hour before serving.

Medium ruby red. Dusty and rich nose with blackberries, minerality, cranberries and baking spices. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and full bodied. A lot more integrated then last time. Layered with dark cherries, graphite, cherry liqueur and some gravel. Drink till 2025.

Subtle, took a good 90 mins to open up and show a little structure. Lovely fruit, not much by way of secondary flavors. Enjoyable.

Subtle, tannins nearly fully resolved, nice secondary flavors. Time to drink.
