  • I love ports at this stage of life, still lively but mellow and gently fragrant rather than assertive. The 1960 Dow unfolds with red and black cherry, cinnamon, a little game, and a little spirit suggestive of a mix of volatility and its fortification. This has a fine silhouette and the bottle disappears quickly.

  • Opened with port tongs, an experience in itself and decanted for several hours. Beautiful amber in color, the best thing about this port was the nose. Toffee, chocolate, nuts, plums and raisins, with a bit of Xmas spice. On the palate, not quite so impressive. The spirit showed strongly, overpowering the delicate fruits and spices. A longer (overnight) decant would probably have helped. In these older VP's the spirit used was dictated by the government (as I understand it) and was of a poor quality, something some of the older VP's suffer from. This was nice, and the flavors delicious, just overpowered by the spirit. Really, anytime you have the chance to drink a 62 year old port, it's a good day. Not rated.

  • Fathers day 2022; Vintage Ports from my birth year are the only wines worth drinking and this was still (like me, thank goodness!) alive.

Color/App: translucent, light rose/amber core -> diffuse, light garnet rim; high viscosity. Bouquet was reticent on decanting but let it sit for about 90+ minutes and it came around nicely. Iodine, plums, raisins and a little dusty spice on the nose; quite attractive. Palate lightly sweet still with Christmas pudding/spicecake, leather, macerated cherries and cinnamon. While this may not have quite been up to the level of the '60 Graham's and Taylor's I've enjoyed, it's not too far below. Lovely and vivacious, still singing beautifully at 60+ years old!

  • Tasted at home with friends, dinner featuring wine vintages ending in a zero. We finished our evening with this 1960 vintage port, to accompany French and Italian cheeses. Opened and poured immediately, we had plenty of time to let it breathe in the glass if needed. Not surprisingly, the cork broke up and I use a wine strainer to gather the sediment and cork bits as I poured into the decanter. Initial impression should very light amber/rusty colour. Plenty of good fruit on the nose, plums, leather, eucalyptus. Delicious palate, a nice balance of sweetness and maturity, allowing the flavours to come through. This port had definitely lasted the test of time. Delicious and enjoyed by all. There was even a drop left in the decanter for me to enjoy the next day - equally as good!

  • Agree with Ray OB's observations, this is a wonderful drink. The 1960's ave really proved their point. Mature but delicious and plateaud!
