  • Bought this recently from a local wine shop and felt I was taking a rather expensive gamble on a 16 year old Bourgogne Blanc. I guess there's a reason why certain producers are so well regarded.

This wine was singing. No sign of age at all, besides the cork, which was a little damp. The nose was incredible. It really didn't even seem secondary at all. On the palate the wine was fresh and crisp with a nice cut of acid and minerality. A hint of earth was intermixed with some caramelized pear and apple notes. But it was the minerality that real stood out.

    A great wine, no doubt.

  • Medium lemon color.

The nose is complex, developing with a medium+ aroma intensity. Aromas of tropical fruits, yellow plums, oak, chalky minerals, butter and green apples. Great nose, schoolbook example of white Bourgogne.

Dry on the palate with a medium+ acidity and body. Flavor intensity is medium+. Flavors of tropical fruits, chalky minerals, green apples, oak, butter and roasted nuts. Crisp, elegant and delicate. Finish is medium+ and complex with lots of citrus, green apples and chalk dust.

My guess ended up on high quality Chablis due to the pronounced minerality, crisp acidity and slender body. Drinking very good today. I can't see why one would save this for much longer.

  • Very open and developed on the nose with mini corn, butter, burned minerality, crushed stones, yellow apples and some tropical fruits.
Medium acidity, and a much rounder and oilier body than I remembered. Almost felt a bit saline at times. Good length and intensity. Lovely and terrific!

  • The cork was quite musty under the cap and partially drawn. I have experienced this on many Leroy bottles, but fortunately none have been damaged as a result. The bottle felt surprisingly fresh, age and price considered. Still nice straw yellow on color.

On the nose the wine opens with a hint of wet bark and moss, which blows away pretty quickly. The aromas go toward something powerful mineral like the limestone used for climbing or school chalk. Mature yellow apples and honey melon, hint of beach and sea. Pretty hard to pick the different scents apart.

In the mouth oysters, meaty oysters that you chew on. Sea salt minerals. Something "fatty-honey" and butter in the aftertaste. Oysters again, this is so powerful that the wine is a bit one-dimensional and simple. If you dont like oysters, you dont like this wine!

The wine is quite powerful both in itself and in terms of the acid. The "fatty"-feeling and taste after chewing a large fleshy oysters is pretty heavy and stays long in the mouth, long finish for Bourgogne Blanc.

    50 + 5 + 11 + 14 + 8 = 88p.
