Sage and dragon fruit on the nose. Lemons and limes stuffed with candied ginger on the palate. 88pts w/ Cornell curve... 92pts w/ Harvard curve. Great w/ baked Cajun sea trout & bell peppers.

A Sushi and Sashimi Lunch with Rieslings (Mei Sushi, Tanjong Pagar Complex): The table was split between this and the 1997 that we drank together - both were nice. This was a bit deeper than the 1997 on the nose, with some honeyed notes, vanilla, green apples and grapefruit, maybe a little waft of spice. Very nicely balanced on the palate, slightly oiled texture, it showed flavours of lemony, green apples, grapefruit and a nice ring of sweet vanilla moving into a satisfying finish with a nice depth of flinty mineral. Given the vintage, this had a bit more sweet depth than the 1997, but lacked a bit of the chiselled minerally feel of the other wine. Nevertheless, pretty nice and drinking beautifully.

Pinots, Riesling, Dim Sum and Duck (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): Much, much better than the flawed bottle we had the last time - this was actually really nice, especially when paired with our different dim sum courses. The nose was nice and lifted, with some rubbery, petroleum notes drizzled over aromas of white peach, chinese pears and flowers. Subtle, but very attactive. The palate was certainly not a blockbuster in terms of depth and concentration, but there was a lovely sense of balance and precision throughout, from the wine's lively lemony attack to a mid-palate showing some chinese pear and stone fruit accents, even a bit of Fuji apple in there, and finally into a nicely satisfying finish with a touch of sweet flowers. Not bad at all.

Double Birthday Celebration for Fiona and Me (Oversea Restaurant, Shaw Towers): This should, in theory, have been the perfect pairing with our spicy Thai style chicken dish, but the bottle was unfortunately corked to bits. The nose was all chemical smelling - a potent mix of insecticide, thinner and wet cardboard. The palate was somewhat better. Fresh, friendly, but mildly corked, so that the flavours of the wine all dissolve into anonyminity. Pity. The chicken did not go down well either - no other wine on the day could deal with the sweet chili and spice.
