  • Wotn. Beat out a Montrachet and a 1985 first growth. Stunner stone fruit n petrol. 1/4 the price of the Paul Hobbs 2003 Hyde Cab I opened next to it. And at least 4x better. Duly noted— Riesling remains in my eye - the “noble” grape of whites and German Riesling is a great value

  • Opened after being inspired by Riesligfan's recent note, and I can only echo the enthusiasm. This is in a wonderful spot right now. Very expressive aromatics, and the lovely tangy-sweet currant/quince jelly flavors of middle-aged Riesling. Just delightful, and I'm sorry this is my last bottle. Reminder to self to hold Spätlesen until they see 15+ birthdays before they start to show this kind of joy.

  • Hard to believe I have not opened a bottle of this in 16 years. Turns out that was a wise move, as this is in a perfect spot right this very moment. I have four more bottles, and could drink all of them tonight. Honey, spice, peach fruit, golden delicious apple, petrichor, it’s all there and more. Properly sweet for the pradikat, with a finishing jolt of acidity, the balance is old school bright vintage Mosel. Drink now or anytime.

  • Selbach is such an elegant house, consistently producing kabinetten and spatlesen that are light, airy and elegant. This spatlese showed some of the reserve of the 2004 vintage, with less expressive fruit. The wine was nonetheless balanced, with a significant honey/honeydew/orange zest and general citrus overlay. While the wine has some development left, I did not find enough expression of more complex flavors at this stage to rate it higher.

  • Very savory on the nose, with sponti-type brothy qualities, plus cool lime fruit and minerals. The palate is as elegant as they come, completely composed and perfectly harmonious citrus and apple fruit, along with a salty mineral streak. Slightly sweet, but true Spätlese in weight. Excellent bottle.
