  • These really are tasty if you cellar for a little while.

  • This really does benefit from cellar time. Medium weight Loire cf with high toned floral notes of violet and even lavender. Wasn’t too excited about this on release, but it’s evolved in a really nice direction.

  • Fermented spontaneously on indigenous yeasts, aged in old 6000-liter oak vats. Tasted blind.

Dark, luminous and almost completely opaque black cherry color. Fragrant, attractive and pretty much varietally typical nose of floral violet tones, cooked bell peppers, bonfire smoke, some brambly dark berries, a little bit of fresh raspberries, hints of dusty earth and a touch of leafy vegetal character. The wine is dry, dense and pretty concentrated on the palate - yet not particularly big or heavy. There are very intense and quite juicy flavors of spice box, white pepper, leafy vegetal character, crunchy blackcurrants, some sweeter black raspberry tones, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness and a hint of capsicum. The wine is balanced with moderately high acidity and quite gentle tannins that offer light grip. The finish feels more tannic than the midpalate with firm tannins, quite noticeable bitterness and rather ripe flavors of juicy blackcurrants, some raspberries, a little bit of peppery spice and hints of roasted bell pepper.

A very nice, surprisingly firm and brooding Cabernet Franc that shows the signs of a great vintage: the wine is obviously ripe and a bit weightier than your average Loire Cab Franc, but still somewhat lean and very structured feel with great harmony between the body, the fruit and the structure. Getting somewhat drinkable, but stylistically this is still a youngster - I can see this wine easily developing for a decade more and keeping perhaps for another one. Great value at 20€. Very nice!

  • Nice straightforward Chinon purchased off the list for $38 at Char No 4 Brooklyn, NY. Very straightforward vegetal cab franc qualities without a ton of complexity. Happy to drink this cheaply off a wine list on a cold night.
