  • Plenty of fruit and tannin. Only just approaching the plateau of maturity.
This wine was super impressive when I tasted it in Barolo in 2017, but is now in a slightly "closed" phase.
Wait with next bottle until 2023...

  • Prior bottle was a bit over two years ago and the wine remains in a very good spot as it evolves positively, but slowly. Rose, tar, licorice and black cherry on the nose. Full bodied with rounded black cherry and very pretty, much brighter and high-toned blackberry upfront. Mid-body has excellent density as well as depth of fruit. Mostly black cherry, but some brighter blackfruit notes as well as some darker, richer plum qualities. Acidity, tannins, tart black cherry, spices, tar and mineral on the back and through the finish. The prominent blackberry notes I found in my first bottle have mellowed a bit, while the wine has continued to come together well from mid-body through finish. Even at almost 13 years old, this wine is only getting started. It has the structure and fruit to continue to evolve positively for several more years as it hasn't even reached peak yet.

Of utmost importance, give this wine AT LEAST four hours open beforehand, (preferably five), if opening anytime soon. All of these notes were after 4+ hours open. Before then, the wine didn't show anywhere nearly as well. I was actually rather concerned about it for a few hours, but it turned a remarkable corner at the four hour mark.

  • Roses, tar, licorice and lots of blackberries on the nose. Full bodied (15% ABV) with black cherry, blackberries and plum upfront and through the middle. After being open for about four hours, this wine displays impressive balance for an only 11 year old barolo. The mid-body in particular is quite impressive: excellent depth, expressive fruit but rounded and nuanced. Backside into the finish shows slightly tart blackfruit, spices, tar and minerals. The bridge from mid-body to finish shows good background tannins, in balance with the fruit. The mid-body is already starting to develop a velvety, silky quality that shows both the fruit and structure notes to best advantage. Showing quite well at present with enough time open, but this should continue to improve over the next few years. I will save my next bottle until at least Fall 2020, perhaps even Summer 2021.

  • Woaw - Typical nose with rose leaves, tar and eucalyptus.
Plenty of fruit in the mouth. Freshness and well integrated tannins. Complexity, big body and long finish. Like velvet in the mouth.
Quite seductive but wait with next bottle until 2019.
My style of Barolo, quite different from the classic lean / green style with with aggressive tannins and medium body. This is meaty but not clumsy or vulgar. Tasted at Damiliano in Barolo

  • From memory. Served by the glass @ Bovio in La Morra. Not known how long bottle had been kept open (also should be noted that it followed a bottle of Monprivato 2010) but the wine came across as very open for business and quite mature. Quite expressive nose. Dark cherries and flowers, hints of leather, tar and prunes. Bit dry tannins on the finish. Touch of sweet prunes also. I liked it very much. I abstain from commenting cellar potential. 91-92p
