  We poured the wine into a decanter and served it right away. It was medium ruby in colour and offered a reserved nose of red and dark fruit, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, spices, clove and sweat. On the palate the wine showed red and dark fruit, strawberry, cherry, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, spices and vanilla, with medium to medium-plus acidity, medium-level tannin and good length. The medium- to full-bodied wine opened-up and drank well after about 45 minutes in the decanter. It was darker, riper and fuller than the Baron de Ley Reserva 2010 we had before, but the Baron de Ley was fresher and more balanced, and drank even better than this Vina Pomal Reserva 2007. A solid, enjoyable Rioja nonetheless.

  Elegant lite spännande Rioja, fräscha söta körsbär, vanilj och kryddor - kanel och kryddnejlika. Mjuka tanniner och god, lång eftersmak

  Excellent value for money, a nice vanilla and oak rioja, ready to drink but lively to improve over the next three to give years. Medium to full body, a hint of tobacco. Good with red meat dishes. Reliable, hard working but not major league material.
