Notes from memory as I drank this earlier in the week. We gave it about 2 hours of air. This showed the zing and zesty quality of the '11 vintage. And there is a distinct spicy quality to the wine too, both in the palate and finish. Distinctive and not easy to forget and yet very easy to appreciate and enjoy. The fruit had a glassy, polished texture, accented with herb, hard cherry candy and raspberry. I enjoyed this, as it mixed what was more forward from the '10 Poe Angel Camp from last vintage with the zesty and spicy aspects of the '11 impact. Very good.

POE Wines - Winemaker's Dinner with Samantha Sheehan (The Loft @ The Montage - Laguna Beach, CA): I like the '10 it's great, but this is even better in my opinion. Seems like it was picked at a lower brix resulting is a less fruit forward profile. This is killer. Nose has a Pinot funk which I like, some discussion whether this was reduction but not the case. There is light cherry flavor and significantly noticeable chalky mineral note. Yeah. Medium plus length on the finish.

Drank alongside the 2010, will depend on which vintage your palate prefers in determining what you may like better. I found a gamy, smoky note on the aromatic this time. Strawberry, cherry rancher, with a good core of spicy red fruit, like a cracked Indian spice. Shows the vintage's zesty quality, with some truffle and in comparison to the 2010, this 2011 is just a zestier, more driven style against the 2010's more riper tones.

Recently re-loaded on a couple of bottles of the 2011 Pinot and Chardonnay from Poe so decided to open up the remaining bottle that I had in the cellar. This was a pop and pour and served with food (Moroccan lamb and couscous, in case you were wondering.) The nose is in an ever changing mood. At first, I get a strong herbal, green bean element. Swirl and check again. Good Pinot funk with wet leaves, reminding me of the smell of a summer lake. Swirl again and I note fresh blackberries. Maybe some pomegranate too. But this wine is not about detecting fruits. In the mouth, there is a richness of fruit but elegantly framed by tart cranberries and good acidity. Light on its feet but still showing depth of flavor. While on the lighter side of Cali-Pinot, it has the verve evident in many 2011 Pinots. Nice wine. Well done. I am glad I ordered a few more for the cellar. After re-corking, came back to visit this and it still holds up well. Some notes of seashells to compliment the fruit and spice. Very nice wine.

One of the top Pinots I've had, what a grab for $35.
