  Beautiful rich golden hue. Fruit is definitely fading and oak is becoming pronounced. In its waning years.

  Thick, rich, golden-hued wine with over-ripe honeysuckle aroma. The wine is incredibly smooth and complex, and the finish is surprisingly long. Tastes of musky honey with a lingering vanilla aftertaste. In all likelihood this wine reached its peak a couple of years ago, but is still very enjoyable. I would drink any inventory now; this wine is still delicious-but it won't keep.

  Very Floral with violet and exotic fruit., but not nearly as forward now as in previous years. A bit heavier and dense than I would have expected but overall lacking the clean vibrancy of previous years and other vintages. I would drink this up.

  Musky floral perfume on the nose. Rich glycerol mouthfeel, nearly oily, really. Bursting with exotic fruits. Plenty of lychee. Long, pleasing finish. Textbook Condrieu. Really delicious stuff.

The view of the room brightened mightily with the visage of both Adair Sigmon, Michael’s fianceé, and my spousal unit. With Bob commanding the risotto, the spousal unit attending to other sides and overall kitchen logistics, I manned the rotissorie and we set out on a gastronomic mission with a foray into Cabernet Sauvignon (Old World and New World) and leg of lamb. My asides are in parentheses. The Whites - With assorted cheeses (we’re not talking yellow farm cheese), nuts and breads. E. Guigal ‘La Doriane’ Condrieu 2000 Deep golden color with a very focused nose of apricot followed by spice, peach and white fruits. Very full and expansive on the palate. A bit of oak shows, but certainly nothing overbearing. The finish is a little short, but the wine overall delivers loads of satisfaction. (This was my last bottle of this vintage and it did not disappoint. I don’t know of a more satisfying Viognier.) 13.5% alc.
