Chardonnay and Pinot Night with Jean-Pierre Renard (Shin Yeh, Liang Court Singapore): This was really good - clearly new world, but with lots of quality. The attractive nose showed some age, with sappy, candied cherries, a touch liquered, wilted flowers, violet tones, some crushed dried figs, plums, minty tea leaves and some damp wood and savoury oyster sauce notes. Little hints of glycerin here and there too. Palate had a dryish backbone, with tannins showing just that little vestige of hardness. Acidity was lowish, but balance was essentially alright. Nice round flavours - dark cherries, a touch of rubber, and dashes of wood spice moving into the finish. A little short on length, but very pleasant nonetheless. I liked this wine.
