  • A blend of Pinot Grigio from Friuli (75%) with some Verduzzo (25%) picked overripe and dried for 3 weeks on straw mats.

Intense green color with light yellow highlights. Very juicy nose full of tropical fruits like sweet pineapple, very ripe yellow damsons, apricots, some honeydew melon and a hint of Pinot Gris spiciness. On the palate the wine feels as supple and fruit-forward as the nose with soft, full-bodied mouthfeel and very rich and ripe, yet pretty dry flavors of succulent yellow fruits like peach and mirabelle plums, some smoky spice and a hint of herbal bitterness. Despite the 4 g/l of residual sugar the wine feels pretty dry and balanced with moderate acidity, at least when cool enough, but as the wine warms up, it becomes somewhat sweeter and the fruit overwhelms the acidity a bit. The finish is medium long and a lot more unassuming than the midpalate with vague yellow fruit flavors and some spice, with herbal bitterness gaining more foothold as the fruit flavors fade.

Here we have a decent appassimento parziale white that is surprisingly fruity and full-bodied despite being a Pinot Grigio - after all, Italian Pinot Grigios are notoriously thin, lacking in body, flavor and fruit. However, I guess most of the credits go to the dried Verduzzo grapes for this one. Whatever the case might be, this is a perfectly decent, fruit-forward everyday white to be sipped on its own on a warm summer's day. At 14,50€ the wine seems a bit expensive, but still not yet overpriced.

  • Yep, per previous notes and similar perhaps to the '09 I tried...great low price for this young summertime white. Served with appropriate food this is fairly straightforward, not a lot of complexity just now - but nose has light tropical fruit/white fruit. Palate is medium bodied, soft with acid...muddled tasting profile, but similar to nose in that there is some tropical/white/stone fruit in there...medium duration finish - fades into light peach??

One for weeknight quaffing, and perhaps give this another year in bottle...not one to hold for to long.

  • Good balance between fruit, acid and sweetness, but not very complex. Good value at this price (5$).

  • Light straw in color, with interesting aromas of yellow peach and melon. Palate opens with tropical notes, a hint of herbs and as the wine opens, notes of caramel and cream in mid to back palate. Surprisingly delicious, with complexity, nice acidic balance and a mouthwatering finish.

  • Worked very well with an Aisian Salmon recipe. Great balance between acid and fruit.
