La Festa del Barolo Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): We had opened and decanted this for sediment and rebottled before bringing to the event. The truth was this needed more of a real decant. It was a touch musty going into the glass and the nose was a bit off. With some time though it really blossomed. With more time the red fruits and the truffle and the more herbal notes (and it's an herb I just can't quite put my finger on) all there. The last sip was the best which means a decant would have been advisable. Still, very enjoyable.

A bit of a difficult bottle. Started out tough and funky. One person even thought it may be corked. But after 3 hrs of air, it really started being itself -- i.e., an outstanding barolo. Nose was, like before full of intense berries, especially raspberry, along with some smoke. Bright aciidity on the palate melding with rich fruit, and some earth. Tannins are still there, but softer than earlier bottles.

Intense nose of raspberries and smoke. The palate is rich with bright blue and raspberries, bright acidity, with some earthy undertones, and some pretty intense tannins that develop after the first 40 min. or so. A marveloous drink. I'm pushing back my estimated drink date a couple of years, since 2011 is not at all near the end or peak of this outstanding barolo.

G.D. Burlotto Barolo (Del Posto Restaurant, NYC): Seems off. Hard to tell if it is the bottle or the wine. Seems cooked. NR
