Cork was jet black, but still intact. Bottle level was an inch below neck. No browning on edge. Still drinkable but decidedly on the downside. Of coarse, after thirty-eight years, bottle variation is the norm.

Kind of lost in my cellar for 20+ years. Turned out to be a blessing. Fill just barely into the neck with saturated cork. Absolutely no browning on edges. Fully mature, exceptional bouquet and flavor. A tribute to ageing potential of CA cabernet.

Exceptionally well stored. Not quite up to the 90 Montrose on the table, but not that far behind. Well integrated spicy American oak dominates the palate. Quite lengthy, and improved noticeably with time. Harkens back to when California was trying to make wines like Bordeaux. When California really had a different style. How the worm has turned.

Corked, but I'm cautiously optimistic for my remaining bottles.
