Fine grain, tight tannins throughout, with leather and tobacco flavor dominating. Smooth and supple with a tightness toward the end when the tannin shows the most. Quite nice drinking.

My first encounter for a sagrantino with a fair bit of age. First impressions before the decant revealed floral scents and pipe tobacco on the nose with red pepper spice and dark berry, iron, medium acidity and medium plus tannic astringency on the palate. With air things smooth out and this was a hit with the rich rack of lamb char grilled chops. Great food wine to cut the rich flavors of the lamb and oven roasted carmelized beets, rutabaga and garlic cloves. I think the drinking window posted above is spot on. Peaking now and solidly holding for the next few years.

Tannic tannic tannic. Even after 2 days. May not improve.

Pretty good but not mind blowing. Still pretty primary.

Didn’t take detailed notes at the time. Ok but not profound.
