  • Celebrating Beaujolais Nouveau 2014 (Pine Close): Pop and poured. Consumed over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon-yellow colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of lightly toasted buttery oak, stony + saline minerality. With more air, sea-salt/brine/seafood aromas. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of lightly toasted oak, butter-cream, stony + saline minerality, and citrus lemon-lime. Medium+ finish. Minerality gained a bit more intensity with more air. Just the right touch of oak, great balance and nice minerality.
Very good quality. Reminiscent of a good premier cru Chablis. The minerality could still develop slightly more over the next 2 years, and will hold well for at least another 2-3. Can drink and enjoy now too.

  • From one of the most consistant Mornington producers in a good year, this is a bit disappointing. It's all about nectarine and citrus fruit flavours. Spicy oak and creamy lees flavours are muted and it lacks the piercing acidity that good Port Philip chardonnays possess. More of an easy drinking, drink now proposition. Not bad all the same.
