Retail $42. Under screw cap. Brian Loring has stated on countless occasions that he likes his Pinot young, fruity, and within a year or two of bottling. This is not that. Not even close. But it is also glorious. Good fruit, no, great fruit on the nose and the palate, along with an herbal aspect, and a bit of spice. I have a few more Loring Pinots in the cellar, all 2012s, and I can honestly say that I am in no hurry to get to them (but I probably should).
No real notes, and that’s just wrong since this is the first bottling of the ‘12 Keefer for me. But I know it delivered a decided herbal quality (in a good way) that is almost rosemary, but not quite. And as with all Lorings, it delivers the “Big Bang” of cherry on the nose and palate. It shows a touch of bitterness on the end. Surprisingly, very little sediment at all. The wine finishes a bit bitter. No sediment. 14.9% alc. With salmon topped with sundried tomato crust. 08.20.20. Recommended.

Plenty of initial dark fruit, but it didn't linger. Nice earthiness late palate and a good balance of acidity and oak on the finish. I struggled a little with a point rating--it's not quite as big as many CA Pinots, but it's not really restrained either.
7/15/2019 Similar notes to last time, but really tasted the Bing cherries. Felt better about the blend between power and finish.

While unmistakedly Loring in style, tonight this bottle was showing some welcome restraint. There's still the expected big, bold, dark red fruit up front, but there's also some fairly subtle earthy nuances with undertones of nutmeg and lots of white pepper on the long finish. This was drinking really today.

Structured delicious structured fruit. Blackberries and blueberries. Good acidity, nice with food. About at its peak.
