It may have been the fact the restaurant decanted the bottle without asking, but it wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. Certainly not bad, but I did have hire aspersions for it which were not delivered. A solid village wine that I was hoping would punch above its weight with its pedigree.

Last time I had this wine in 2017 I said I would give it 5+ years. Well, I gave it 6 years. Based on this bottle, that was a good decision. The wine has undoubtedly become more complex over that time. It was in 2017 a primary display of gorgeous well-judged fruit. Now, the wine has added to its resume with hints of underbrush, mushroom, and even a bit of star anise. The snappy red fruit is still there, but everything is a bit more complete at this stage. The nose is truly entrancing. Over time in the glass, the acids take the forefront a bit more. At this stage, I slightly preferred the "pop and pour" experience of the first hour with the wine. Lovely village wine that delivers much more than most at that level.

Opened at Otto e Mezzo in HK. P&P, and enjoyed in a Zalto over several hours.
Fantastic bottle of Mugnier Chambolle. Floral notes with predominantly red fruit coming out at the start, shifting slightly towards more meaty notes as it aired. Classic Mugnier/Chambolle weightlessness on the palate, with a great balance of minerality and acidity. Don't let the femininity fool you though - there's a lot of backbone to this wine.
In an excellent spot right now but will keep for 3+ years at this level I feel at least, especially given recent experiences with the 2009 Les Fuees. Might even improve. Anyway, a very happy afternoon bottle!

PnP. Out of the gate this is bright and fruity, super expressive despite its beguiling lightness and almost translucent color. After an hour, it shifts to a much more savory and herbal driven bouquet, dominated by the classic Chambolle spice — If ever so slightly compacted or muted. Perhaps a bit shut down? Lived up to expectations but perhaps did not exceed them. I must confess the first pour was my favorite.
Lo said it “tastes fancy.”

Really pretty and aromatic, with delicate and detailed fruit. Very nice Chambolle!
