On a Tokyo winelist (with 600 red Burgundy) this was quintessentially ’20 and quintessentially Mugnier, a lithe, feminine, graceful, predominantly mineral wine with accents of rose and yuzu, but it’s the weightless mineral complexity that’s so seductive. And on the winelist for roughly 1/3 of my local retail price…

@ Oiji Mi NYC. Infanticide for sure but have a case and had to try it out. Big, herbaceous nose with linoleum coming through, mellowing out to tart cherry over time. Deep, almost opaque crimson. What gets me is the contrast of weight (some 1er and young Musigny in here) and weightlessness - dense and material on the palate, ephemeral on the finish like Ravel’s Scarbo. No sign of the hot vintage - the low-intervention style shines through beautifully in Mugnier 2020s. This will definitely deliver upside with some patience.

Opened in Courchevel. Slow-oxed for a while and then enjoyed over a long, quiet evening.
This was very good. I was worried about infanticide - and it probably was a little bit, to be fair - but with air and patience it just blossomed. I was also worried about the vintage, as I tend to be cautious about 2020 reds, but I am happy to report that Mugnier has effortlessly handled the heat, and this was drinking beautifully.
Red fruits, Chambolle elegance and a soaring palate that masks the stuffing to help this wine age. Tannins already very well integrated. Slight tension which holds everything together - this will need a bit of time to unfurl. As such, potential upside if you wait another 3-5+ years, but drinking so well already. JFM always delivers!

Opened and poured. Beautiful deep saturated ruby. Initially, ripe cherry and licorice blast out of the glass. With an hour of air, the fruit backs down and more menthylated notes come to the fore. Superb volume and density for a village wine. Gorgeous tart red fruit, excellent acidity, real salinity, and round tannins. Rich yet more structure than it seems on first pour. Despite its tremendous fruit, it seems as though it is on the verge of closing shop for a while.
The second night, the fruit and richness returned in grand fashion with an almost New World profile.

오크의 밸런스가 미쳤다
장미, 과실이 첫번째로 느껴지고 숲, 흙향으로 이어지는 와중에 오크가 넘치지 않게 밸런스를 잡아줌
