  • Medium yellow. Guava and herb strike you first. Wonderful, glycerine feel, complex melange of tropical fruits, pear, and citrus with herbal distillate, fine acidity, and a finish replete with soil. Unique and quite grand.

  • Medium yellow. Orange and that vegetal Gruner thing I always find so challenging to describe. Wonderful glycerine and texture, just off dry, regal length and underpinning of soil. One of the world's great underrated white wines still kicking butt at age 13.

  • Profoundly delicious. Sheen of green in the deep yellow. Nose of waxy, minerally, tropical fruits, and classical ripe Grunerness. Waxy, Semillion-like, yellow-fruited deftness, detail and power on the palate. Rich and balanced. Yes, there alcohol here and the hugeness of the vintage, but this is still long and lingering, delineated, and fresh. Big- not fat - but BIG. Unctious. Boistrous. A "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" style. The best Knoll, and the best Gruner, I've had in quite awhile. WAY good. This will last for two, probably three, decades. Now for heft; later for precision, detail and even more complexity. 93 pts pure quality, 96 pts personal preference.

  • White pepper and fresh vegetables- english peas and green beans with some citrus pith on the back end. Fresh, but pretty full bodied and rich. there is enough acidity to keep this fresh. There is great density and textural richness, with a touch of heat. This is a powerhouse that lacks a little finesse, but that said it is not heavy heavy. I like the savory green a peppery flavors, and while this is a little less focused than I like my Austrian Riesling (I am not sure if it is vintage), I am picking nots and this is an outstanding bottle of wine. Impressive on size more than elegance. Quite long. 91 pts
