(Knoll Gruner Veltiner Ried Loibenberg Smaragd) An affordable price for perhaps one of the classic examples of Gruner in the Wachau. Orange oil, minerals, water chestnut on the subtle nose. Fat palate with good acidity and tangy lime, watermelon and a hint of passion fruit zing on the finish. Very juicy. Seems to have alot in common with Chardonnay except it is crisper and grittier. Like a restrained Niellon 1er Cru from a fat year like '89.

Regular dinner group (@ My place): Mature and still beautifully soft and lush bouquet. On the palate a creamy wine with very mild acidity. Soft and round, fully mature wine.

Heartwarmonig nuances of candied fruit, saffron, white pepper and rock dust. Completely mature, yet vital and complex. Very baroque in taste, just like the label.

Quite evolved in colour - golden/yellow, bright and glowing. Very intriguing on the nose - notes of flowers, chamomile, saffron, peanuts, dried fruit. Quite sweet and rich. On the palate smooth at first then more acidic and grippy. fresh, spicy, mineral, a little spirity. Intense, lingering finish. Another great bottle. Slowly drink up. 92-94
