  • Excellent earthy nose from the first minute when opened - mushrooms, celery, red berries, some plum, a little Rioja-ish in its earthiness. On the palate -it took 10 min in the glass to open up a little from what seemed at first a dead duck... But then revealed its charm and we could not stop drinking it till gone. Palate - mineral, mushroom, strawberry, mid bodied, great acidity, just a bit thirdish with some caramel and port notes, but so lovely. How lucky am I to drink such gems? Pretty lucky. Drink now although would probably last 5 more years. A treat. 93.

  • Clear garnet to tawny edges. Fresh and dark fruity with a touch of old leather and smoke, lots of flavor in an elegant package. I don't drink much Cornas, but if this was ever rustic, 34 years have allowed the ripe complex fruit to shine. Terrific with rack of lamb.

  • Back Vintage Wine Night (Extra Space): Carefully poured into decanter and drank over 2 hours. Lots of coarse sediments left behind in the bottle. Initially quite tight, only opened up after 30mins of air.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Thin legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of mushrooms, earth, leather, smoky savoury meat. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium- alcohol (12%), medium tannins with just a hint of grip, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of mushrooms, earth, leather, savoury meat, and fruit that is still alive - blackberry, black cherry, dark plums. Long finish.
Very good quality. I was surprised by my own wine. A Cornas from a good maker can indeed age well. Drinking at its peak now. Drink up by 2-3 years' time before the fruit dies.

  • Rich colour, medium deep, mature but lively; wonderful nose, aromatic, deep, spicy, characteristic, leather, coffee, tobacco, blueberries, floral topnotes, supported by the warmth from the wood; concentrated, fleshy, powerful, well-structured and lively, lovely balance, nice hint of ripe sweetness; excellent length. A well-built, classical Syrah.
