  Dinner with the wine group (Zazie's, San Francisco): A bit réticent on the nose right now. Cherry, red fruited, some spice; palate is a bit short right now; short-medium finish. Needs air. 90 now.
  1 hour air: nice spice, rich bodied for a burgundy, good complex flavors. Opening up nicely and would age longer, though this is my only bottle. 91

  Classy feminine and pretty. Just what volnay should be. So floral, like a bouquet of roses or even a lighter softer red flower. Sweet fruit but not sweet on the palate. This is so nice right now but has 10 years. Some noted a leafy and almost green quality, but if it's there it's so faint and I wouldn't have even mentioned it.

The leafy note may not be for everyone and I will admit that it was distracting at times, given its prominence. In time this may turn into a lovely fragrance.   This has something in reserve, but shows pure dark red pinot fruit cloaked in limestone, dark green herbs, and assertive but not unpleasant tannin. A classy pinot that wants a few more years to find its form.
