  • Very good. In the zone for my palate. Perfect balance of maturity and freshness. With 30 minutes of air in decanter, this was on its way. Layered fruits, gently lifting acidity, elegant and long. A delight. recommended

  • Grape, dill, alpine flowers, white pepper, hints of vanilla. In the mouth rather massive feel. Do not feel that the alcohol is to present. 14 percent, sure. But not disturbing since the acidity works well and the length is 30+ seconds. Paired it with a t-bone veal steak, sage butter and a potato, Parmesan and rocket salad. Perfect match. I have some 2011 Smaragds from Alzinfer left. Was a bit worried after some notes here. But I see easily five more years for these wines. And around 2025 is probably when I will drink my Alzinger Réserve 2011.

  • Nice stone fruit flavours and ripe pear were joined by tropical and mineral notes, white pepper and an earthy undertone, with lively acidity and very good length. The medium- to full-bodied wine had good concentration, but was quite alcoholic towards the end of the palate, even burning on the aftertaste. The heat from the alcohol (labelled as 14% ABV) made the wine seem disharmonious and would normally dictate to serve the wine ice cold, but that muted the flavours. Unsatisfying. I much preferred the Loibenberg. (88?)

  • Lemon zest, apple, and a hint of tropical fruit on the nose. Minerals with medium+ acidity and very nice finish.

  • Concentrated and rich, powerful but airy, beautifully balanced and pure, energetic, white pepper, long. Excellent Alzinger. A business lunch at Restaurant Noble, 's-Hertogenbosch, NL.

Terry Theise Estate Selections

(Alzinger Grüner Veltliner Steinertal Smaragd) ($64.00) Almost garrigue-y, it’s so sunny and generous. The palate is splendidly complex and serpentine; really green tea (actually like a Chinese green called Tai Ping); addictively juicy and spearminty; extravagantly delicious yet not at all seductive. + +
