  • Acid presence just a little too much. Decanted for about 45 minutes. Great nose but just lost its palate, probably in last couple of years. Better with food.

Day 2- I knew better than to throw Olga under the bus. Fecal backed off and acid backed off also. Pretty damn good considering its Day 1 showing.

  • Opaque cranberry color with some bricking at the rim. Very earthy and a bit fecal on the nose.

Earthy with some saddle leather, cigar, spice and just the barest hint of sour red berries in the background. High - acidity and a slightly thin mouthfeel. This wine has a wonderful sense of place. Classic Chinon flavors; drinking well now, but for my tastes at or past its peak. Drink.

Note: held up well on day two.

  • Just a wonderful bottle of this 1995. Old world ...old school..yes a bit austere but how enchanting..classic chinon. My 2nd bottle of this and both were very good.

  • This was great and held up great over two days. Classic chinon..drinks great now..this was not an old wine just holding on..this was a statement about what an aged chinon can be..just great..rustic yet classic

  • Garnet w/ brick rim. Red fruit and spice/ cedar on the nose. The palate reveals some cherry fruit and acid -- a bit over the hill despite this bottle supposedly being recently ex-chateau. It could be overwhelmed by almost anything you eat, still it's very smooth and an interesting peek at old Cab Franc from the Loire. Drink up!

(OLGA RAFFAULT Chinon Picasses) 1995 Dear Friends, Thanks to your support of the 1990 over the weekend, we now have a few cases of the 1995 - one of the toughest Chinon of the 1990s to get. 1995 was an excellent vintage for Cabernet Franc in this area and Raffault’s Picasses is a classic expression of the varietal. This wine is a prefect introduction to aged Chinon - it walks the border between old and young with just enough youthful red fruit clinging to the secondary character that has emerged. Cool-toned and medium weight (with very low alcohol )and all the trapping that make Loire reds so polarizing, this is from the same library stock as the 1990 we offered last week. Unlike the 1990, the 1995 is only available in France - only 20 cases have been released from the cellar and that’s it. If you desire wine that few will have - this is your chance. An exemplary version of Chinon and an amazing deal at this point for a 1995. EXTREMELY LIMITED - VERY RARE (only a few cases available for the entire US) 1995 Olga Raffault Chinon “Les Picasses” (Cabernet Franc) (this is not the same stock that 1855 in Paris has - that is an original release lot and not from this library stock that was aged at the winery) Please give us your maximum number and we will allocate accordingly Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Loire9333
