  • Quite hazy and moderately opaque cherry red color with rather tertiary mahogany hue. The nose feels very developed with complex aromas of wizened dark plums, dried black cherries, some leathery funk, a little bit of sweet VA lift, light tobacco tones and an acetic hint of balsamico. The wine is rich, ripe and full-bodied on the palate with rich tertiary flavors of ripe black cherries, some pruney fruit, a little bit of leather, light volatile nail polish character, a hint of earthiness and a touch of vinegary balsamico character. The moderately high acidity lends good sense of freshness and balance to the wine, while the tannins feel ample but very resolved and nicely rounded by the age, contributing mainly to the textural mouthfeel. The finish is lively, juicy and very long with developed flavors of sour cherries, pruney dark fruits, some wizened black cherries, a little bit of earthy spice, light acetic notes of balsamico and a lifted volatile touch of nail polish.

A wonderfully developed, harmonious and delicious old Brunello with very textural overall feel. The wine shows somewhat elevated levels of volatile acidity, but nothing what wouldn't be expected of older Italian reds. I guess some might find the wine excessively volatile, but to me they mainly add to the sweetness of the fruit quite nicely and don't distract from the pleasure. All in all, quite lovely. Sitting solidly at its plateau of maturity and most likely isn't going to develop anywhere from here but down - better to drink sooner rather than later.

  • A great bottle with a stellar ullage sourced from a German cellar. What a magnificent bottle - tar, herbs, Tuscan fields and dried leaves made me swoon with delight! Long finish- must find more of this gem! Amazing.........

  • Front label said '66, back label '68. Amber color. Perked up some with time. All tar and acid. Old, but some attractive elements. Enjoyable.
