Deep golden color of apple juice concentrate. Rich and developed nose with complex aromas of oxidative nutty richness, some buttery tones, a little bit of beeswax, light tertiary notes of dried peaches and apricots and an understated hint of matchstick smoke. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated and oily with complex flavors of exotic spices, butter, moderate chalky mineral bitterness, some creamy oak, a little bit of oxidative nuttiness, a hint of dried apricots and a touch of cantaloupe. The wine is still relatively high in acidity - not enough to make the wine feel fresh or racy, but enough to keep in balanced and nicely structured. The finish is long, rich and complex with lengthy flavors of tart green apples, zesty citrus fruits, creamy oak, some buttery richness, a little bit of chalky minerality and a touch of wizened stone fruits.

A very beautiful, complex and wonderfully developed example of this Esporão white that can be quite sumptuous and oak-driven in youth, but drinking like an aged Burgundy when old enough. Although I've never been a big fan of Esporão Reserva whites in their youth, I've always thought they do show some impressive aging potential. It's nice to see my hunch was right, because this is pretty stunning stuff. One of the greatest Portuguese whites I've tasted. Just darn lovely.
