I bought this bottle in Lisbon for 15€ ten years ago. Talk about money well spent! Tight tannins and very high acidity, but really complex and elegant. Glue, red berries and a hint of leather on the nose. Bright red berries, a bit of vegetables and some tobacco on the palate. Light and fresh despite its complexity. Reminds me of a good barbaresco. Has the structure to age much longer and probably improve.

Colares @ Aldea (NYC): A bit riper and more accessible than the 1996 version. Ripe, tart cranberry and crunchy minerals. Sharp cut with a whiplash finish that comes and goes in waves. Make no mistake, although more accessible than the 1996, this still has a stiff tannic spine and could use time in the cellar.
