Visually, barn red colored and hazy, with browning along the rim. Scents of red fruits, spice, and barnyard...aromatically it reminds me a bit of a less powerful Levet Cote Rotie with all the funky notes. On the palate high toned red fruits, VA, barnyard and green stemmy notes. While on the lighter side of the spectrum, there's still a good concentration of flavor. Moderate tanins and a medium finish. Singular and interesting. While I enjoyed this wine, I found this more intellectually challenging than delicious.

First time with a Colares red. Really original wine. Not something I can quite compare. Touch of VA on the nose/palate, but overall a very elegant, light, yet persistent wine. Definitely a wine of higher tones and minerality rather than fruit or weight. Opened with air and it added some more complexity. Great fun to try.

Nose showing fresh red fruits, cherry, strawberry, some lifted nail polish remover notes. Palate showing some more volatility, but still balanced with the fruit, not obtrusive.

Drank over the course of two days, and seems more expressive on day 2. Dark fruit, violet, musky herbs/spice, bordering on funky/gamy/barnyard yet elegant, with terrific salinity, ample acidity, and some additional structure from medium-strength tannins. Nice general intensity, while staying light in weight. Tasty and interesting wine.

from 500mL. dark ruby with light browning at the edges. Nose herbal, dark fruited. Palate fruity, juicy black cherries, high acidity with light tannin on the finish, a mineral/saline quality. Still seems very young, a lot of stuffing, but already very pleasurable. 91 pts
