At Belcanto, Lisbon. From the restaurant cellar. Grapes are ramisco (local variety only found in Lisbon, and unaffected by phylloxera). The winery is located in Almoçageme, west of Lisbon, with grapes grown near the oceanfront, often in sand!
Sommelier used the Durant to open it, but cork was whole and well preserved. It wasn’t really needed, but I’ve never seen such an older bottle with this good of a cork.
Color - started bricking, but still early and by no means tawny yet.
Nose - strawberry, meadow flowers, touch of honey
Taste - ripe strawberries, cherries, secondary notes of cherry tomatoes. Medium acidity, fruit is evidenced. But this wine still has some time left.
Delicious.

Clear, medium garnet core, medium watery rim, developing
Nose is clean, medium intense aromas of crowberry, seaweed, blueberry, Nutts, seems too loose steam after some time contrary to the 69 and 34. Developed
Palate is dry, medium acidity, alcohol, body and flavour intensity with medium+ flavour intensity and aromas of crowberries, stable, mushrooms, seaweed, but fades after while, medium finish
Very well balanced, medium finish, not that intense but very complex, but fades, solid concentration. Outstanding quality, 92p

Alinea Retrospective 2011-15 (NEXT in Chicago): Always fun to try a wine on the older side which tends to be what we gravitate towards anyway. Agree with some previous notes that it's not fully showing it's age although I say that in both the good and the bad way. There isn't that extra elegance that I expect from a wine that has been around so long. Instead fairly basic. On the other hand, not really tired. Still going.

Dark, high acid, grippy, but absolutely compelling.
