  • The bouquet is nice & dry, in the taste a whiff of caramel, but also a bit hefty acidity. The finish is misses finesse.

Deep and concentrated copper color with a nutty brown hue and luminous golden yellow rim. Very sweet, developed and concentrated nose with aromas of acacia honey, some dried apple slices, a little bit of wool socks, a hint of cooked apples and a touch of roasted walnuts. Holy smokes, some really attractive and fascinating aromas here, the nose seems to develop with every sniff. The wine is full-bodied, sweet and quite mature on the palate with luscious and still very vibrant flavors of acacia honey, honeydew melon, apple jam, steely minerality, some wool socks, a little bit of lemony citrus fruits and pithy bitterness, a hint of almonds and a touch of roasted walnuts. The mouthfeel is smooth and silky, but the structure is precise with bright and moderately high acidity. The finish is quite sweet, steely and rather acid-driven with a touch of balancing bitterness and very long flavors of apple jam, lemon marmalade, some wool socks, a little bit of chalky minerality and hints of roasted and chopped almonds and walnuts.

A stunningly beautiful, complex and captivating old sweet Chenin showcasing why Loire is one of the lead runners in the world of dessert wine regions. At 30 years of age the wine feels nicely developed, yet I'm not that sure if the wine has actually reached its plateau of maturity. Or maybe it has, but there is still room for development - the wine might not develop into something better with age, but not into something less stunning, either. A spectacular wine that has everything one might want from a dessert wine - perfect on its own and can be paired easily with so many different sweet or savory desserts. Very highly recommended.

  • Weekly tasting group RWP #254: Special wines (@ DJ): Honey, apricots and other yellow fruits, sweetness nicely balance by good acidity. No more notes and no score.

  • Weekly tasting group #148; A mixed set of white and red wines. (@ DJ): The bouquet is quite reductive and shows some minerals. On the palate honey, apricots, polishing wax, butterscotch, some minerals, a lot of sweetness balanced by ok acidity. For a wine of this age certainly impressive and still very drinkable, but I don’t score it. (Would be 85+ or so)
