This bottle purchased before my tenure at Chambers Street Wines. Good cork with a fair amount of sediment on it. Upon opening effusive aromas begin to waft from the freshly-breached bottle. In the glass the wine displays a ruby purple robe with just a tiny bit of bricking on the meniscus. The nose offers a lovely mélange of dark fruit, violet, game and peppercorn aromas. The cool-toned, mid-weight palate offers a balance of spicy granitic earth with bosky blackberry and cherry stone, black tea, and grilled meat flavors with a good line of freshness with. The tannins are still present and integrating with the fruit and there’s a snappy bounce lent by the acidity—overall a fine glass of Crozes! Based on the tannic profile I wouldn’t guess this has another 20 years in it, but if you prefer your Syrah more resolved, I can’t imagine another 3-5 years will do any harm. This did improve over 4 hours. A lovely bottle with duck with turnips.
