  Another good bottle of this, though not as good as the previous from a few weeks ago. The fruit seemed to be more faded on this bottle or perhaps my palate was not liking this as much on this day. At this age, though, you can expect some bottle variation (under cork).

  Recent auction purchase. 500 cases produced.
  I've not tried this in its youth, but this is certainly in a great spot right now and drinking beautifully. Medium intensity and medium fruit, in a Napa Cabernet context, that suits my palate just fine. Oak is there, but not overpowering, which serves the fruit and overall balance well. Went very well with Beef Bourginone.
  Opened a 2011 right after this, but it was not nearly as good.

  No question! This is a terrific wine. Nuanced and bold yet delicately refined. Dark cherries, cassis. Hints of spice, cedar, dark chocolate.

  Really. Good. Stuff. Ripe drinking. Pop and pour 10 years post vintage. This one didn't survive past dinner. Unique volcanic tufa from the Vacas in the Rutherford AVA grows grapes that struggle to survive makes these wines with incredible tannin and structure. This wine has good acidic character from start to finish. Black cherry and lilacs. Combo of red and black licorice with a smoky, black pepper and Rutherford dust finish. Really amazing how well these drink when one actually has the willpower to hold them. But, truth be known, these were acquired about a year ago from the winery in a special release. So yeah, my willpower is still pretty terrible. But this wine is firing.
